Once again, their roster is full of heavy hitters who can outscore each opponent. If the game goes their way, they will definitely win it with ease, however, that is a big IF. Gleyber Torres will be once again a vocal point of their offense after a season of 38 home runs and 96 runs. Gerrit Cole is expected to start for the Yankees and he conceded just 5 losses last year. He is New York’s highest-paid pitcher for a reason.
The Washington Nationals are coming off a World Series campaign and they managed to keep their key players for 2020. They showed great patience in last season’s playoffs where they beat the Astros in the World Series 4-3. The roster is very well balanced and the Nationals are well-coached. They do not have any gaps in their squad and they are aiming towards another postseason run. Max Scherzer will start at the mound for the Nationals on Thursday. The veteran had a great campaign last year winning 11 of his 18 games with a 2.92 ERA.
This is a very tough pick. I’m siding with Washington mainly because Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge won’t be playing for the Yankees. That would mean that Scherzer should probably have an easy afternoon. Still, the Nationals have a ton of issues with their bullpen and they could run into trouble in the latter stages of the game but overall, they have the better roster and the better coach.
