UAB made a school record this year with 10 wins. They even went on a 10-game winning streak which was snapped in a 40-21 loss to the Texas A&M. QB AJ Erdely is currently injured at the moment and he is not expected to play in this one. If that is the case, his place will be taken by the backup QB Tyler Johnston III. UAB’s offense is not very impressive but their defense is holding their opponents to just 17.3 points per game.
The Northern Illinois Huskies will be seeking their first bowl win since 2011. They snapped a two-game losing streak by winning a narrow game against Buffalo. The Huskies are relying on ground offense, even though QB Marcus Childers is able to make big plays throwing the football when needed. Northern Illinois is averaging 20.7 points per game while allowing 21.5.
Both teams aren’t offense heavy teams and they both have good defenses. I still believe that UAB’s defense is better and their run defense should be able to stop the Huskies’ ground attack.
