Jeremy Chardy, world 32nd, play in Madrid fourth tournament on clay since the beginning of the season. On his first tournament on Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo, Chardy defeat the Russian Kuznetsov in the 1st round before bowing to the next round against Bautista Agut. At Barcelona (ATP 500) Chardy was eliminated in 3rd round by the Japanese Nishikori 3-6, 5-7. Finally, at the Masters 1000 Madrid, the French were out in the 1st round by Albert Ramos-Vinolas 3-6, 4-6.
Damir Dzumhur, 75th in the ATP, had to go through qualifying to make its appearance in the main draw of Rome. Previously, the Bosnian had reported its beautiful current provisions on clay by reaching 3rd round of the Masters 1000 Monte Carlo, easily eliminated by Canadian Raonic 3-6, 6-4, 6-7. Earlier in the season Dzumhur had achieved another great performance by moving up until 4th round of the Masters 1000 Miami, beaten by Raonic again, 0-6 3-6.
