TCU hasn’t been as impressive as in the last few years but the team still managed to get into a bowl game. They managed to beat Baylor in a narrow 16-9 win on the road and Oklahoma State 31-24 at home. The Horned Frogs are a different team this year which relies mostly on its defense. The team is relying on the third option quarterback Grayston Muehlstein who did a great job against Oklahoma State but struggled against Baylor.
The California Golden Bears are also a defensive-minded team that doesn’t rely on its offense because it is lacking. They had some very good moments throughout the season, including a 12-10 win over Washington. The Golden Bears are scoring 22.8 points per game while allowing just 21.2 points. The freshman QB Chase Garbers has thrown for 1413 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
With a third choice quarterback under centre and a one-dimensional offense, I think TCU will be in big trouble against the elite California defense which held Washington’s great attack to just 10 points. The Golden Bears are capable of making enough plays when needed and I believe that they will deliver in this one.
