Things haven’t been going well for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers so far. Mike Sanford took an 11-3 team 2 years ago and he was hired with the main intention to improve the program. He is 7-14 since joining and he might be replaced at the end of this season. The offense is averaging under 20 points per game while the defense is allowing 30 points per game. The Hilltoppers are even missing routine field goals at the moment. They are not even close to decent either on offense, defense or special teams.
Middle Tennessee took care of business when they met Old Dominion last week. Their defense came up clutch in this one, especially Reed Blankenship who finished with 17 tackles. He also had 3 sacks for losses and one pick-six which he returned to the house on a 100-yard run. Quarterback Brent Stockstill has been very efficient and he is improving each week.
Western Kentucky is just falling off a cliff right now and I can’t bet a penny on them. Their quarterback is inconsistent and their defense is giving up many points. I expect Stockstill to excel in this one and the defense will help, too. Covering the spread shouldn’t be a problem for Middle Tennessee.
