Betting Prediction:
Tulane is back in a bowl game after a 6-6 season. The team is not very dynamic on offense. It averages just 25.7 points per game. The offense is showing glimpses of quality at times but that is not enough. Offensive coordinator Doug Rose was fired but Alex Atkins is not doing much better. Defensively, Tulane can’t defend the pass, allowing 262 yards per game through the air but they are solid against the run, allowing 154 yards per game.
UL Lafayette won three straight games before falling to Appalachian State in the last game. Lafayette played against some impressive opponents early in the season such as Ohio State and Alabama. They also played against Mississippi State when they got their biggest loss of the season- 56-10. The team is running the ball well, averaging 229 yards per game with Trey Ragas leading the way- 1441 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The American is clearly a stronger conference than the Sun Belt, however, I still can’t see how Tulane is going to beat UL Lafayette. Lafayette boasts a strong offense and especially a strong running game that I do not think Tulane can cope with.
