Nathan Eovaldi will get the nod in game 3 against the Astros. His only appearance and a debut for him in the postseason was very impressive. He pitched 7 innings against the Yankees’ high-powered offense and he allowed just 1 run. He hasn’t played a game for Boston against the Astros but his last one for the Rays finished in a 5-1 loss.
The Astros will send Dallas Keuchel at the mound in game 3 for his second start in the playoffs. He played decently in game 3 against the Indians, allowing 2 runs in 5 innings in a game that the Astros won fairly easily and swept Cleveland. He played against Boston at Fenway Park this year but he lost the game by 6-5. He allowed 5 runs in 6 innings and the coaching staff wasn’t happy at all with his performance.
Dallas Keuchel is very inconsistent against the Red Sox in his career but he managed to limit them to 1 run in the ALDS game last season and he features a solid 3.28 ERA in the 46 innings he pitched in the postseason. On the other side, Eovaldi is 2-6 on the road this year. Given the fact that Houston won 10 of their last 11 games, I believe that they will repeat this in a crucial game 3.
