Abilene Christian will play just 3 games this season and one of them is against a ranked side- Army. So, they’d really want to get the most out of their other 2 games at hand. The defense will no longer be the same this year after Jeremiah Chambers left the team- he was the leader in tackles. The passing offense should still be present and will try to take advantage of the poor UTEP defense.
UTEP, on the other side, already played two games. They won 24-14 against Stephen F. Austin but then got beaten down by Texas on the road, 59-3. They were unable to move the sticks as their QB Gavin Hardison finished with 141 passing yards and an interception while RB Deion Hankins added just 34 rushing yards on 11 carries. The defense did not play well at all but what you can do against this high-powered Texas offense- QB Sam Ehlinger single-handedly tortured the Miners as he finished with 426 passing yards and 5 touchdowns.
To me, UTEP are the better team and teams usually rally around after big losses. I believe that’s exactly what’s going to happen and they will beat the rusty Abilene Christian squad at home. Let’s not forget that the Wizards won’t play many games this year and the motivation will also be low.
