They exceeded the expectations and finished with a 9-3 record, including 5-1 in their final 6 games when they beat Boston College, 42-21. The Orange piled up 559 yards of total offense against Boston College with 362 through the air and 197 on the ground. The team scored at least 40 points in each of their last five games.
It is already known that David Grier will miss the bowl game as he will focus on the NFL Draft. With him gone, Jack Allison will get the nod in this one but he has attempted just 10 passes this year, completing 6 of them. West Virginia started the week as favorites to win this game by 7 points but they are now 1-point underdogs with many missing players on both ends of the field.
I believe that David Grier’s absence will benefit the Orange who also have a great offense. Syracuse has only lost one game by many points and it was against Notre Dame. The Orange were even the only team that matched up against Clemson and gave them trouble before falling 27-23 to them.
