Purdue had an up and down season and even though they showed that they can beat the best, they have also lost many games they should have won. For example, they beat Ohio State in October and that kept the Buckeyes away from the playoffs, even though they had a fantastic season. Since then, they fell to Michigan State, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The offense hasn’t been an issue as it is led by QB David Blough who recorded 3521 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and just 8 picks. Defensively, however, the team is allowing big gains.
Auburn also doesn’t have any issues on offense. It put up 21 points against a great Alabama defense but also allowed 52 points. There were only two times when the offense struggled and it scored 9 and 10 points against Mississippi State and Georgia respectively. Stidham is going to the NFL Draft but he hasn’t played very well overall and he will be expecting a good bowl game to solidify his draft stock. He completed 60.1% of his passes for 2421 yards with 13 touchdowns and 5 picks.
Auburn has the better talent but Purdue already showed that they can beat anyone and can compete even with the best in the country. I expect the Boilermakers to continue to impress in this one and get the W.
