The Virginia Cavaliers are 9-3 and they are only in this conference championship game because of the lack of competition. Clemson is clearly the best team in that conference and that is why they are a 28-point favorite. Virginia won its first game against a ranked opponent last week when they played Virginia Tech. QB Bryce Perkins is doing all of the good things on offense. He is completing 64% of his throws for 2949 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions while also rushing for 687 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Clemson, on the other side, is the defending NCAAF champion. Even though they are beating opponents by 20, 30 points and more, their only game against ranked opponent finished 24-10. Trevor Lawrence looked inconsistent all year but he managed to gain confidence with the games that he played and he is keeping the mistakes to a minimum at the moment. He is completing 68% of his throws for 2870 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions while RB Travis Etienne is helping him with 1386 yards on 168 carries and 16 touchdowns.
Clemson look very good on paper but they are underperforming this year. I’m sure that Trevor Lawrence and the company will win this game but 28 points are too much in a conference title game. Virginia has some weapons and the Cavaliers will take advantage when they can.
