The Troy Trojans are 5-2 and they will be looking to improve to 6 wins and keep pace with Appalachian State and Georgia Southern. They lost surprisingly to Liberty last week and the backup quarterback Sawyer Smith didn’t play well at all. Kaleb Barker is out for the year and Smith is not filling his shoes. He has 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions so far on just 59 passing attempts. Troy are mostly relying on their running game as B.J. Smith has rushed for over 100 yards in 3 straight games.
The South Alabama Jaguars are really a mess. They have just 1 conference win and they lost to Georgia Southern on the road in week 6 by 48-13. Their senior quarterback is very consistent in his play but his defense doesn’t help him at all. They’re allowing over 30 points per game and their rush defense is awful.
Given the fact that South Alabama will be going up against an offense that likes to run the football, I do not think that they can contain them. Furthermore, Troy even has the better offense and their defense is very solid. I can see the Trojans covering the spread easily, allowing no more than 14 points for the Jaguars.
