The Sharks got stunned by Anaheim in their first game, even though they were thought to be the favorites in this game. San Jose managed to outshoot their opponents but they weren’t as effective as the Ducks were. Evander Kane, who bagged 29 goals and 54 points last year, evened the score with some dazzling moves, before Tomas Hertl (22 goals, 46 points in 2017-18) netted an incredible goal at the end of the second frame to make it 2-1 for the hosts. The Ducks, however, managed to get back in the game and eventually win it by 5-2.
The Los Angeles Kings were knocked out in the first round of last year’s playoffs by the Vegas Golden Knights and they will be looking to improve on that, having high hopes for Kovalchuk. The 35-year-old Russian spent the past five seasons with SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League, netting at least 30 goals in his past two seasons, and has picked up 816 points (417 goals, 399 assists) in 816 NHL games throughout 11 seasons thus far.
