The North Carolina Tar Heels are 4-5 on the season with a decent offense and an inconsistent defense. This is a team that almost beat Clemson and if it wasn’t for the 2-point conversion they tried to pull out, they might have beaten them. It is also a team that lost to Virginia, Virginia Tech, Appalachian State and Wake Forest. The Tar Heels are averaging 28.1 points per game and allowing 27.1. QB Sam Howell is playing very well, throwing for 2472 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions while the ground game is also lethal. Javonte Williams has rushed for 738 yards while Michael Carter– for 629. The red zone offense, however, is struggling and this is costing them victories.
The Pittsburgh Panthers are 6-3 and they have played very well against weaker opposition. Their only losses came against Virginia, Penn State and Miami. All of these are or were ranked throughout one point of the season. QB Kenny Pickett is completing 61% of his throws for 1952 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. RB A.J. Davis is rushing for 407 yards and he also has 3 touchdowns.
Both teams lack a great ground game but they are fine through the air. Pittsburgh has more star power on defense and having in mind that North Carolina is not that efficient in the red zone, I will lean towards the Panthers to cover the spread.
