On Tuesday night at Anfiled Liverpool will make their return to the Champions League with against the Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad. Both team are in group “B” of the tournament, whe are more Real Madrid and FC Basel.
Liverpool surprisingly lost to Aston Villa 0:1 in the last match of the Premiership. The team of Brendan Rodgers was without a lot of ideas in attack and the absence of key players in the raid team has taken its toll on the meeting. New signing Mario Balotelli did not managed to provide the required level and was replaced in the second half. After four rounds of Liverpool with a total of six points and occupies eighth place in the standings in the English Premier League.
Liverpool was last in the group stages in the 2009/10 season, but finished third in their group before reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League. Emre Can and Lazar Marković are suspended for match against Ludogorets. Daniel Sturridge is still expected to be out for the Reds, leaving Mario Balotelli to lead the line whilst Raheem Sterling returns to the team after having been given the weekend off.
Ludogoretz beat Botev Plovdiv 2:1 as a guest before his visit to Anfield. Despite the success, however, the Bulgarian champion is fourth in the league, two points from first place.
Ludogorets are in the group stages of the Champions League for the first time in their history. They beat Steaua Bucuresti on penalties in the Play-offs round to make this stage, but they did reach the last 16 of the Europa League last season in their debut appearance. Previously in CHL this season they defeated Luxembourg’s F91 Dudelange (5-1 on aggregate) and Serbia’s FK Partizan (2-2 on aggregate; away goals) in the second and third qualifying rounds.
Ludogorets have signed Canada keeper Milan Borjan to help ease a goalkeeping crisis for upcoming match. Vladislav Stoyanov is suspended after being sent off in the shootout win over Steaua Bucharest, while Ivan Cvorovic is out with a shoulder injury. The head-coach George Dermendjiev expected not to make almost no change in the starting lineup, in addition to the goalkeeping position. The only question before spedialista perhaps who lead the attack, as candidates for the post are Bezyak and Hamza.
Liverpool is the favorite according to bookies in the upcoming game, which is not surprising. So far Ludogoretz may not be met by such a class team and they will be difficult to resist success at Anfield. In this game, bet on success with a difference for Liverpool to mark their return to the Champions League.
