Ben Simmons will not play this season anymore. That put the whole postseason of 76ers in jeopardy. The game started very closely and the first period finished 26-25 for Philly. The second one, however, was won by Boston 23-30 and they had the lead at half time. 76ers started very strong in the third period and won it 30-20. That was when everyone began to think that they can win game 1 and put a lot of pressure on Celtics even without Simmons. That didn’t happen because Celtics won 4th period 22-34 and with this the whole game 101-109.
Of course, Joel Embiid was the best player for 76ers with 26 points and 16 rebounds. The bad news for Philly was that he was the only one with at least 20 points. For Celtics, Jayson Tatum scored 32 points and Jaylen Brown helped with 29 points. The worst news for Boston that night was that Gordon Hayward was injured and now we know that he will miss 8 weeks.
In the remaining of the series, we will not see Hayward anymore. However, he is not among the best players for Celtics and that is a far less loss than Simmons for 76ers. That can affect the chances of Boston against the best teams in the East but I don’t think that will be deciding against Philly. I expect another victory for Brad Steven’s team.
