Betting Prediction:
Northwestern missed the chance to get to the Rose Bowl and will now have to satisfy themselves with the Holiday bowl. They started the season very poorly with 3 losses in the first 4 games but have turned things around since then. They fell to Ohio State by 21 points in the championship game but this was expected. QB Thorson has played well in the important games of the season and he has put up decent numbers, running the offense like a veteran playmaker.
Utah, on the other side, is coming off a narrow 10-3 loss to Washington. It is impressive that they kept the Washington offense to just 10 points. The defense did its job, however, the offense was held to anemic 188 total yards. The special teams’ play is good. The only problem is that they need to get to field goal range, in order to utilize its effectiveness.
Northwestern had a good season if we exclude the first 4 games and the one against Ohio State where it was clear that the Buckeyes are by far the better team and they could’ve easily been in the postseason. Northwestern showed many great things on offense in that game and I expect them to do well in this bowl game.
