Game: Manchester City – Barcelona
Date: 18 February, Tuesday 2014 year
Start time: 19:45 GMT
Manchester City hosts Barcelona at “Etihad” in the first match between the two teams from Round of 16 in Champions League.
On Saturday Manchester City sent a statement of intent to Barcelona with their FA Cup win over league leaders Chelsea. And two hours later, Barcelona fired right back with a thumping win over Rayo Vallecano.
Manchester City had the bad luck to encounter Barcelona even at this early stage of the tournament after finishing second in the group stage, although there were equal on points with Bayern Munich, who finished on first place. Barcelona had no problems even in the group with teams AC Milan, Ajax and Celtic and logically come out as the winner of the group after four wins, one draw and one loss.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will possibly have to make do without star forward Sergio Aguero and Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho as both face a race to be fit due to physical problems, while Samir Nasri could make the bench after resuming training.
James Milner will have to watch the game from the stands after picking up a one-match ban following his three yellow cards in the group stages.
For Barcelona, experienced defender Carles Puyol and Brazil international Neymar are expected to be match fit in time after resuming regular training action this week, but neither of the two has featured for the Catalans in recent weeks.
Mexico international Jonathan dos Santos will miss the game as he is still recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.
