The LSU Tigers are ranked for some reason in this year’s NCAAB rankings. They started the season with a great win over Bowling Green, 88-79 and Javonte Smart was the go-to guy on offense. Even though he was 5 of 12 from the floor, he finished with 21 points and a 100% completion of free throws. He also had 5 assists and 8 boards and he led his team in assists and rebounds as well. If they continue to rely on Smart that much, it will certainly become a problem because he is 6’4 and they are asking him to do everything.
THE VCU Rams are 2-0 with wins over St. Francis and North Texas. The team is allowing just 57 points per game and scoring 65. Guard De’Riante Jenkins is the leader in scoring with 14 points while forward Marcus Santos-Silva leads in rebounds and assists. The big man is very versatile and he is also capable of stealing the basketball. The Rams play iso ball because they have many great ball handlers.
I’m not sure how much VCU will benefit from the iso ball they’re playing in the long run but at least at the moment, they will get the better of LSU. They have better shooters and Marcus Santos-Silva will protect the paint very well.
