Appalachian State is in top 25 which comes as a surprise to all of us. They lost just 1 out of their 6 games so far and it was against Penn State in overtime. Since this loss, they have 5 straight wins on their resume and they are led by an offense that is high-powered, averaging around 30 points per game and a defense that is solid and makes plays when it is needed.
Georgia Southern is averaging over 350 yards per game on offense, including 276 on the ground. Their QB Shai Werts is running the read option very well. He will play in this one but he is a little banged up and I’m not sure how effective he will be.
Appalachian State are the more experienced team and their quarterback is very consistent. Zac Thomas has thrown for 1,146 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just four interceptions this season. I expect this to be a high scoring game between two sides that know what they’re doing on offense. It is also worth mentioning that both lines seem a bit low to me. I expect the Mountaineers to make this a blow out with a lot of points on the board.
