Match: Novak Djokovic vs. Jiri Vesely Preview, Predictions and Betting Tips
Date: Wednesday, 31 August, 2016
World number 1 didn’t start his title defense in the US Open like he would like to.
Djokovic had tough first 2 sets in his game against Jerzy Janowicz and won the game in 4 sets – 6:3 5:7 6:2 6:1. The Serbian complained after the game about left wrist injury and his fans are probably worried about this game versus Jiri Vesely. The Czech is one of the very few players with a positive h2h balance against Djokovic.
They met for first and only time this year in Monte Carlo (clay) and Vesely defeated Nole in 3 sets and he ended Serbian’s 14-game winning streak and 24-set winning streak which was unbelievable and it’s probably the biggest surprise in men’s singles this year. But at least now Nole knows what to expect from his opponent. Vesely will probably be a little bit exhausted after his tough 5-set win against Saketh Myneni.
Jiri was almost beaten in this match as he was 2-5 down in the 5th set, but his Indian opponent suffered cramps in his right leg and couldn’t stand on his feet at the end and Vesely turns the match around. I think that Djokovic’s light injury won’t prevent him to get into the 3rd round and I expect him to win in straight sets.
